Painting the Figure

Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm | June 6 – 10, 2016

This week-long figure painting course focuses on simplification of the human figure from direct observation, both in terms of color and form. Topics covered include value and temperature studies, demystifying skin tones through color mixing exercises, basic anatomy, along with how to capture light and build form. Historical and contemporary figure paintings will be presented, live demonstrations will be provided. We will work directly from the nude model each day. A variety of standing, seated and reclining poses will be covered throughout the week. Some painting experience is preferred. Oil painting is the preferred medium.

Tuition:

– $795 full tuition

– $975 for 1.5 credits*

Rolling Admission- just $250 deposit due at time of registration.

at Rock Neck’s Cultural Center, 6 Wonson St. Gloucester, MA

In conjuction with the painting exhibition Landscapes and Seascapes:Recent Paintings by Brett X. Gamache held at Rocky Neck’s Cultural Center from June 7-29, oil painter Brett X. Gamache will conduct a Plein Air Landscape Painting Workshop on Saturday, June 14th from 9am -2pm on Gloucester’s Rocky Neck. Gamache will provide one-on-one instruction as participants paint on Rocky Neck. Topics covered include setting up, beginning a painting, mixing color, creating space, and capturing light. A brief critique will be held during lunch from 1pm to 2pm. Workshop fee is $75 for RNAC Members, non members $100. Participants should plan to meet outside the Rocky Neck Cultural Center located at 6 Wonson St. at 9am with painting materials (including an easel, palette, canvas(es), paints and brushes) along with a bag lunch. If you wish to stay for the afternoon painting session with the instructor from 2 to 5pm for an additional $25 ($40 for non RNAC members), participants may watch a demonstration by Gamache and/or work alongside the instructor. (Rain date is set for June 15 9am-2pm)
